Bolaji 29th May 2020

Mr J, as we all fondly called you, it still feels unreal. I never knew that the last time I would see you was at my son Tolu’s wedding in February. Initially you thought you won’t be able to come but I was thrilled when my husband told me you were coming. Yes, both our families tried to be at each other’s memorable events. You went with us all the way to Scotland for my son Tolu’s graduation. That was how we’ve done it in the over 20 years that we knew each other for. We started off as neighbours but the friendship became stronger than mere neighbours. I keep going back to the photos we took together at my 60th birthday party. I’ve lost count of the number of times I have looked at them. But my memory of you at Tolu’s wedding is priceless. I didn’t see you when you arrived; I heard your voice behind me even before I saw you as you came to say hello. We hugged and I told you how happy I was that you could come. Your reply was, “You know I won’t miss it.” Mr. J, you will be missed greatly. You always made it a point to call me on my birthdays. You showed interest in everybody’s welfare, and you made everybody laugh. There are so many fond memories and I will hold on to them very dearly. Rest in perfect peace in the bosom of our Lord. 🙏🏾 Olaitan Ogunseye (Mama Yewa).
